Training and Support

Whether a recent graduate or looking to change careers, you will find this is the programme for you if:

  • You are looking for full-time, hands-on training in at least two schools close to your home
  • You would like to qualify within a year

You will be in school four days a week from early September until the end of the summer term, with six weeks in another local school (or schools, based on preference and availability). This will give you lots of hands-on experience and the change to learn from many experienced teaching professionals.

Before you enter the classroom, you’ll have two weeks of intensive training. This will focus on core areas such as behaviour management and planning.

Across the year, you’ll take part in six modules with live seminars and conferences. These are tailored to whether you’re specialising in primary or secondary education.

You’ll be eased into teaching by shadowing other teachers. Later you’ll lead your own lessons with guidance from more experienced colleagues.

You’ll be supported by both a subject mentor and lead mentor. Your lead mentor will train you and oversee your progress throughout the year.

The cost of training with RET SCITT and Teach First is £9,250 for the 24/25 academic year.
